UTB Welcomes Pearl Hoareau-Kakooza as New Chairman

In an exciting development for Uganda’s tourism sector, Pearl Hoareau-Kakooza has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) by the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Tom R. Butime. Her appointment marks a significant step forward for the country’s tourism industry.

Pearl Hoareau-Kakooza’s appointment was officially announced at the opening ceremony of the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE), East Africa’s premier tourism event. The event was graced by the Vice President of Uganda and various other ministers, highlighting the importance of tourism to Uganda’s economy.

Pearl has deep roots in Uganda. She is the daughter of Noella Hoareau (née Figaro) of Mont Buxton, who, along with her husband Jean Hoareau, moved to Uganda from the Seychelles in 1958. The couple married in 1959, and Pearl, along with her two siblings, was born in Uganda. Pearl’s father, Jean Hoareau, is a prominent figure in the travel industry as the Managing Director and Owner of FCM Travel Solutions, a leading tour and travel agency in Kampala. Pearl herself brings extensive experience to her new role, having served as the Chairperson of the Uganda Association of Travel Agents.

Alain St.Ange, President of the African Tourism Board (ATB) and former Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports, and Marine of the Seychelles, personally met with Pearl in Kampala to congratulate her. He assured her of ATB’s full support during her tenure, reinforcing the collaborative spirit within the African tourism sector.

Pearl Hoareau-Kakooza’s leadership is expected to bring fresh energy and innovative strategies to the Uganda Tourism Board, further solidifying Uganda’s position as a top travel destination in East Africa. With her extensive background and strong familial ties to the travel industry, Pearl is well-positioned to drive growth and development in Uganda’s tourism sector.
