In an effort to improve service delivery and enhance conservation efforts, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary has announced a revision of its entrance and activity fees, set to take effect on July 1, 2025. The new rate structure applies to various categories of visitors, including foreign non-residents, foreign residents, East African and Ugandan citizens, and guests staying at Amuka Lodge.
Located in Nakasongola District, along the Kampala–Gulu highway, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where visitors can see southern white rhinos in the wild. Managed jointly by the Rhino Fund Uganda and the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), the sanctuary plays a crucial role in rhino conservation, with plans to eventually reintroduce the species into Uganda’s national parks.

Supporting Conservation Through Tourism
The revised pricing aims to better support the sanctuary’s rhino breeding program, infrastructure development, and community engagement initiatives. Ziwa currently hosts over 30 southern white rhinos and offers one of the most unique wildlife experiences in Uganda — rhino trekking on foot.
In addition to rhino tracking, the sanctuary is known for its rich birdlife, including the rare and sought-after shoebill stork, making it a must-visit destination for birdwatchers. Other activities like guided nature walks and canoeing offer immersive experiences with the sanctuary’s diverse flora and fauna.
Visitor Advisory
All visitors are encouraged to book activities in advance, especially during peak travel seasons. Rates are inclusive of guiding services, but exclusive of transport, meals, and accommodation. Amuka Lodge, located within the sanctuary, offers a convenient stay for those wishing to explore the sanctuary in depth.
